Wasn't it Golden Goal when England played Argentina? Campbell thinks he won it, half of the England team celebrate but goal is disallowed,

Only if Golden Goal was brought in ultra early. The Campbell disallowed goal, was around the 80 minute mark.

Re: Europa Final πŸ†
If still tied at the end of overtime, award it to the team with lower possession stat but only for overtime. The moment the ball leaves the pitch for throw or kick, possession starts for the team awarded possession unless the other team requires attention to an injured player (but not in the case that both teams require treatment to their players) then the possession time goes to them, and if it's 50/50 then it's determined by which half the ball ended up in. Whoever is attacking that half wins.

Also I want chess-style clocks that the 4th official has to operate just off the touchline to show real-time possession stats.

Mike Oxsaw 10:20 Fri May 28, yes should go back to replays, could be scheduled before hand and even everyday until they got a result to avoid fixture problems.

Wasn't it Golden Goal when England played Argentina? Campbell thinks he won it, half of the England team celebrate but goal is disallowed, Argentina break with half the England team still celebrating and Argentina miss! Gazza needing a bigger size if boots at Euro 96 was another Golden Goal "moment"!

If it's not replays I can't think of anything else but penalties. The better teams used to win the replays more often than not, Man United's 4-0 FA Cup hammering of Brighton being a good example,. At least with penalties the underdogs stand a chance unless it's West Ham 2006!

The Charity Shield was "shared" after a drawn game, was it not?

I don't see that in a game where a draw is a third of the probability outcome it should not be accepted as the final result.

It seems to me that it's only the MSM that insist there must (MUST) be a "winner", on the day, in every competition, and they drag the morons along with them.

I'm real old skool, in any case - I'd want replays until they drop - and fuck the TV scheduling.

Yea, didn't like it, too American. After all these years they still can't come up with a better solution than pens. Can't ever see it being any different now.

Germans winning Euro 96
French in a knockout game v Paraguay on the way to winning the 98 World Cup

Sounds ridiculous but golden goal always felt less dramatic than a penalty shoot out.
Tv companies probably like the extended pen shoot out as well.

France won Euro 2000 with a golden goal. Trezeguet. I think that was about the height of it.

Re: Europa Final πŸ†
Golden goal what ever happened to that?

Sven Roeder 9:04 Fri May 28
Re: Europa Final πŸ†
If you had the penalty shoot out before you'd see even more dismal finals as more teams parked the bus if they knew a draw was enough.

As said previously the only problem is extra time. Bin it
With penalties its a mental thing. You need to think that by drawing you have blown it and lost and that the shoot out is giving you a second chance to take a trophy you dont deserve.
What I'd like to see is all 11 names for each team in a hat and the ref pulls out who the penalty taker is each time.
Maybe with the keepers kept as number 11.
